The final member of a three-man gang which critically injured an elderly shopkeeper during an armed robbery at a post office has been jailed.

Adrian Vasile Bledea, 22, was extradited from Germany and brought before Wood Green Crown Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

In July, 2010, Bledea posed as a customer at the post office in East Barnet Road, moments before carrying out the robbery alongside accomplices Vasile David and Iulian Anisiu.

Two of the men were in possession of black imitation firearms.

Anisiu and David forced their way to the back office, pushing 74 year-old shop manager Abdul Ebrahim to the floor.

David repeatedly kicked the pensioner in the stomach while Anisiu and David stole approximately £11,700 in cash and stamps.

All three suspects then made off in a Ford Ka along Churchill Road heading in the direction of Brunswick Park.

Mr Ebrahim was taken to hospital in a serious condition, where he underwent treatment for abdominal injuries. He remained in intensive care for four days and continues to receive specialist care.

Bledea, of Romania, appeared at court after being extradited back to the UK on Tuesday, February 21 after he was arrested in Germany on European Arrest. He pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm yesterday and was sentenced to six years imprisonment.

At a previous trial David, 22, pleaded guilty on January 3, 2012, and was sentenced to six years imprisonment for two counts of robbery and two counts of possessing a firearm.

Anisiu, 23, was sentenced to six years imprisonment for robbery and possession of an imitation firearm in October 2010.
