A student from Whetstone was handed a once in a lifetime opportunity when she was crowned Miss Monaco Grand Prix at the world famous event.

Joanna Spyrou, of Green Way, won an all expenses paid trip to be a grid girl at the Formula 1 race when she was among ten contestants chosen during a competition at District nightclub in London last month.

Sponsors Miss Motors paid for the winners to be sent out to the world renowned race where they walked the track and made various nightclub appearances.

The 22-year-old was crowned during a beauty pageant at the event and says experiencing the glitz and glamour of life in Monaco was incredible.

The former St Michael’s School student said: “It was amazing. You just really can’t believe it. We went on day trips up to the mountains and all around Monaco. We went on people yachts and to various parties – it was just unreal.”

The University of Hertfordshire graduate, who wants to be a primary school teacher, has entered various beauty pageants in the past and is the current Miss Northern Ireland and a former Miss Hertfordshire.

To win her latest title she took part in various rounds including photo shoots and nightclub appearances but says she doesn’t plan to stop there.

“I’d like to enter another competition later this year as I do enjoy it. All of the girls were so pretty and I never thought I would win. It was amazing.”
