A Hendon secondary school has teamed up with playwrights, celebrities and a primary school to put together a weekend of performances.

This weekend Hendon School, in Golders Rise, will open its doors for visitors to enjoy its summer production of the legend of King Arthur.

The school commissioned five well-known British writers to each pen a short play telling part of the story of King Arthur.

These 20 minute plays will be performed one after the other, in different locations around the school, and together will tell the whole of the legendary tale.

The writers who have got involved are Philip Ridley, Mark Ravenhill, Dominic Francis, Judith Johnson and Nick Drake.

Most of the actors are pupils of Hendon School but they will be supported by professional actors, including London Burning’s Ben Onwukwe.

Pupils from Bell Lane Primary School in Hendon are also involved in the performances.

Thomas Janvrin, teacher at Hendon School, said: “We are really excited about this venture. The pupils have had the opportunity to interact and learn from industry professionals in workshops leading up to the current week of intensive rehearsals.

“We are hoping that Tim McInnerny from Blackadder will be attending the performance on Sunday and the writers themselves will also attend at some point.”

The performances, entitled The Once and Future Plays, will be performed at 7pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Each evening the show will be preceded by a banquet at 6pm which is included in the ticket price.
