Bicycling Rabbi raises money for charity
A bicycling rabbi from Golders Green is to take part in a 75 mile ride for charity.
On July 1 Rabbi Yossi Simon, 42, who lives in Western Avenue, will join the Capital to Coast Challenge which involves cycling from London to Brighton.
Rabbi Simon is undertaking the challenge to raise money for Tzivos Hashem, an international Jewish organisation which aims to connect children with their Jewish heritage.
Rabbi Simon works for Tzivos Hashem in Golders Green where he runs youth groups, summer schools and activities in schools all of which aim to promote Jewish culture.
He said: “I needed to get some exercise and I wanted to raise money for the charity so I just put the two together and decided to do the bike ride. I am very much looking forward to it.”
The rabbi has been cycling since he was a child but only took up the sport seriously last year when he bought a new bike and did a ten mile sponsored ride.
He said: “The training this time round was going quite well until the recent rain.
“Last night I went on Ebay and bought an exercise bike and now the sun has come out.”
Rabbi Simon is hoping to raise £5,000.
