Larry Achike stole the show for Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers by climbing to the top of the podium at the Aviva London 2012 Olympic Trials at the weekend.

Achike produced a fine distance of 16.19m to take first place in the triple jump at the Birmingham meet ahead of two of his clubmates.

Nathan Fox was also on the podium after posting 15.73m for third place while Daniel Lewis was unable to record a distance.

In the women’s event, Nadia Williams had to settle for the runner up position as she leapt 13.46m.

Harriers also enjoyed further success in the field as Zane Duquemin managed to finish third with a throw of 17.95m in the shot.

Duquemin was unable to repeat the trick in the discus however, having to settle for fourth place after posting a distance of 59.46m ahead of Angus McInroy, whose 54.19m was a season’s best.

Gregor Maclean’s personal best of 5.35m saw him pick up the silver medal in the discus, with Joe Ive (5.05m) finishing sixth, while Jade Nicholls also took second in the discus, throwing 52.21m to finish ahead of Shadine Duquemin (48.04m) in fifth.

Joanna Blair narrowly missed out on a bronze in the javelin as she posted a season’s best of 48.89m, Chris Bennett had to settle for fifth after throwing 67.07m in the hammer, while in the women’s event, Sam Hynes (59.29m) took sixth.

The women’s pole vault saw Jade Ive take sixth spot with a season’s best 3.91m while Allan Smith leapt 2.08m to finish equal eighth in the high jump.

Completing the field events, the duo of Dan Bramble (7.54m) and John Carr (7.43m) finished sixth and eighth respectively in the long jump.

It was a less successful meet on the track for the club as only Lee McConnell managed to get herself on to the podium, finishing third in the 400m with a time of 53.05.

Abi Oyepitan didn’t make it to the start line for the 100m despite strong runs in both the heats and semi finals while Marilyn Okoro (2.04.78) crossed the line fifth in the 800m and Gemma Bennett (13.52) was sixth in the 100m hurdles.

Over the longer distances, Glen Watts was seventh for the club in the 3000m steeplechase after posting 8.56.64 while Beth Potter (10.22.10) and Victoria Walker (11.17.45) were sixth and 15th in the women’s race.

In the 5000m, Sarah Waldron’s time of 16.26.93 was good enough for 13th place while Jake Shelley (14.29.93) and Niall Fleming (14.45.58) were 16th and 23rd respectively for the men.

Over the 1500m distance, Amy Campbell took fifth in a time of 4.23.86 and Phillippa Aukett came home eighth in a time of 4.25.48 – slightly slower than her personal best of 4.21.20 in the heats.

Also in action for the club were Confidence Lawson (21.22) and Antonio Infantino (21.63) in the 200m but the duo were unable to progress from their heats.

Justin Geohgen took fifth in his 100m heat in a time of 10.69 while Shereen Charles’ 12.12 saw her take fourth in her first race for the women.

In the 1500m, Anthony Whiteman’s time of 3.49.45 saw him finish fifth in his heat while Sophie Connor (4.49.72) was tenth.

Completing the track action, Sebastian Rodger couldn’t progress from his 400m hurdles heat after finishing in 52.06 while Allan Scott suffered the same fate after recording 14.05 in the 110m hurdles.
