Scientists encourage people to sign up for nature survey in Barnet

Scientists are encouraging fellow nature lovers to help survey a piece of land in Barnet this month.

Members of the public can help identify and record many of the plant and animal species on the nature reserve in Byng Road from 2-5pm on Saturday, July 14.

A team of natural history experts will also volunteer their time to share their knowledge at the site, which will soon be home to a new hospice for charity, Noah’s Ark.

Conservationist, Dr Oliver Natelson, said: “This multi-disciplinary survey will put a smile on the face of every bat and butterfly, every bird and wee beastie, knowing that for once they are the stars of the day.

"These animals and plants too will have the chance to be included in the recorded history of this site in the borough of Barnet.”

Representatives from Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and London Wildlife Trust will attend the event as well as the deputy Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Kate Salinger, MP Theresa Villiers and Barnet councillors.

The Bioblitz event will be one of many surveys taking place nationally.
