An 11-year-old schoolgirl is delighted after winning a national walk to school competition.

Daniyah Ahmed from St Mary's and St John's School in Prothero Gardens, Hendon, came first place in the Walk on Wednesday (WoW) competition which encourages young people to walk to school once a week.

Entrants were asked to design a badge based on the theme All Around the World.

More than 1,000 entries were submitted from 300 schools across the country and Daniyah’s entry was selected as one of the 11 winners.

Daniyah said: “I was really shocked when I heard I’d won. I want to be an illustrator when I’m older so I’m very happy I was one of the winners.”

She designed a badge illustrating the Statue of Liberty which will printed and given to approximately 300,000 young people next year.
