Potters Bar councillor gives grant for pond redevelopment

A councillor's grant is making a splash after he donated cash to revamp Shenley Pond.

The £1,400 donated by Potters Bar's Councillor John Usher will pay for new benches around the pond, situated near Cowley Hill.

Redevelopment work began earlier this year, with workers dredging and de-stilting the historic landmark.

The pond dates back to Roman times, but in the 18th century the cage was built beside the pond, used as a holding cell for prisoners on their way to court in Barnet or St Albans.
