Barnet-born dressage rider Carl Hester wins Olympic team gold medal

Barnet-born dressage rider Carl Hester has just been awarded a gold medal in the Olympic team dressage competition at Greenwich.

Hester, 45, finished second individually on his horse, Uthopia, with a score of 80.571 per cent.

His team mates Laura Bechtolsheimer and Charlotte Dujardin were placed fourth and first respectively giving the trio the overall lead.

This is the first time Britain has ever won team gold in an Olympic dressage competition and is Team GB’s 20th gold medal of the games.

The silver medal went to Germany, and the bronze, to Sweden.

All three British riders will now go forward to the individual competition on Thursday.

All the other news reports are saying he was born in SARK- mentioning that as it is very much a horse friendly island.
