The water supply to a burst pipe that flooded part of the North Circular in Brent Cross has been cut off, police are reporting.

Thames Water engineers have been working to fix the gushing main that has brought traffic to a standstill at the Brent Cross Flyover since 8am.

The Metropolitan Police is reporting that engineers have stopped the flow and will have to wait until the water subsides before any work can be carried out.

Initial reports from the Met, which sent ten units to the scene, suggest it could take up to two days to repair the problem.

Thames Water is yet to confirm the extent of the damage.
