Barnet basking in late summer heat wave
12:40pm Saturday 8th September 2012 in News By Jaber Mohamed
Barnet will be basking in glorious sunshine this weekend in what is being called an ‘Indian Summer’.
According to the Met Office, Saturday should hit a high of 26 degrees Celsius by early afternoon with more of the same on Sunday.
Local ice cream shops and cafés are preparing for what they hope will be a busy weekend as the hot weather will boost business.
“This weekend should be really busy,” said Dhruv Kalra, a customer service representative at Baskin Robbins in Station Road, Edgware.
“But I sort of wish I was out there in the sun. I’d head down to the beach.”
“Business is going to be great!” said the manager of the Edgwarebury Park Café, Liliana Gjata who is looking forward to welcoming people to her café.
“Children are coming, pensioners are coming, young people are coming and everyone’s happy."
Alicia Borta, a mother of three, said: “It’s great having an ice cream in the sun.
“I just hope it stays like this.”
Sadly the weather is not due to last.
Monday will see the return of overcast skies, a forty percent chance of rain with temperatures hitting a high of 19 degrees Celsius.
The rest of the coming week will bring more of the same.
