A post mortem examination carried out on a man who died following an assault in Friern Barnet has failed to establish a formal cause of death.

Police were called to Larch Close at 11.20pm on September 5 following reports of an assault at a flat.

A man, believed to be 39-years-old, was taken by ambulance to the Whittington Hospital in Highgate where he died at 3.50am.

A post mortem was carried out at Finchley Mortuary on September 6 but it did not establish a cause of death.

Further tests are being awaited but the death is being treated as suspicious and officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating.

The victim’s next of kin have not yet been informed as he has not been formally identified.

On September 6 a man was arrested in connection with the inquiry. He is in custody at a north London police station.
