Barnet Council announces plans to widen parking review across borough

A borough-wide parking review has been announced by Barnet Council following a “successful” trial in North Finchley.

The authority quizzed traders in the town centre over several weeks to assess the parking arrangements and today the authority announced its plans to extend the study.

The council is looking at custom-fitting parking policies to the borough’s individual town centres, depending on the needs of shoppers and traders.

Parking officers have begun writing to businesses across the borough and have set a deadline of September 28 to complete an online questionnaire.

The move has been announced one week after prices in seven council-owned car parks were lowered as part of a raft of changes brought in since the sacking of former parking chief Brian Coleman.

I would like them to review the inconsistent parking arrangements across the Borough. For example, Brent Street in Hendon, restrictions finish at at 5.30pm. Go across to North Finchley and you have to wait until 6.30pm - what is the difference?

Along the Edgware Road outside Edgware Hospital, the two sides of the road have different timings, because one side is in Harrow Council's area. Could this not be co-ordinated? Why is it necessary to have parking restrictions there, as the parked vehicles do not seem to impede the freeflow of traffic at any time?
