Councillors throw out Friern Barnet community library proposal at Barnet Council meeting

Barnet Council’s Conservatives this evening threw out a Labour motion proposing a vote on whether a community library should be opened in Friern Barnet.
At a meeting of the full council in Hendon Town Hall Labour’s Cllr Barry Rawlings put forward an emergency business item asking for a vote on whether a new library should be opened in the area.
The item was added to the agenda as a result of the current occupation of the closed Friern Barnet Library by squatters.
However, of the 56 councillors who voted, 33 were against the motion.
As a result the motion was not debated further.
