A mother-of-two who warned that 4am road works outside her home would cause misery for her family was “proved right”.

Barnet Council engineers carried out resurfacing works in Friern Barnet Lane from September 17 to September 21 between 7pm and 4am.

Swimming instructor Marcia Diamond was worried the work outside her home, between Myddleton Park and High Road, would disrupt her children’s education and give her family sleepless nights.

Despite council officers assurances that noisy works would cease at 11pm, the 54-year-old described the period of road replacement as “horrendous”.

She said: “On Jewish New Year, the house was shaking. For two days it was absolutely horrendous.

“Friday was a nightmare too, with the noise and the fumes – it was horrible.

“The road looks fine now of course, but it didn’t need doing in the first place. I just wish they had done it during the day when we were at work – it really wasn’t worth the fuss.”
