Police name pensioner who died after being hit by lorry in Cricklewood

Police have named a pensioner who died after being knocked down by a lorry in Cricklewood.

Suleyman Ceylan, 80, was knocked to the ground opposite the Crown Moran hotel in Cricklewood Broadway at 5.10pm on Friday, September 28.

Paramedics arrived at the scene but Mr Ceylan, who lived locally, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ali Shah, who works at Royal Supermarket in Cricklewood Lane, said: “He was a customer here and would come in and talk to us. He was a happy man.

“I think he had been to the mosque and was on his way back when the incident happened. It’s very sad.”

The male lorry driver, aged 46, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

He has been bailed to return to a north-west London police station in January pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information about the incident.
