Barnet Council's chief executive says he is excited about his new role at neighbouring authority Haringey.

Nick Walkley resigned from Barnet to take up the vacant CEO position at Haringey’s civic offices in High Road, Wood Green.

He was announced as the borough’s new chief executive last night following a unanimous decision by a cross-party recruitment panel.

No start date has been confirmed but in a statement he said: “I am hugely excited by the opportunity to take up this role with Haringey Council and I am committed to working with all councillors to address the many challenges facing local government.”

The authority has been on the lookout for a new chief executive following the sudden departure of Kevin Crompton in June, after just two years in the job.

Mr Walkley’s appointment is subject to ratification by full council, which is due to meet on Tuesday, October, 16.
