Synagogue plans in Edgware approved

A small synagogue will be opened in Edgware after the plans were approved at a council meeting last night.

Applicants KBA were granted permission to convert Mobray House, in Edgware Way, near the junction with Broadfields Avenue, into a place of worship.

No more than 50 people will be allowed at services at any one time and functions including weddings and Bar Mitzvahs are forbidden.

The council’s east area planning committee also deferred plans for a revamp at the Finchley Reform Synagogue, in Fallow Court Avenue.

The plans include the part-demolition of the synagogue and the erection of a two storey extension.

An existing kindergarten at the site will be re-housed, with more multi-purpose rooms built to increase the scope of the synagogue’s activities.

A decision on the application will now be taken at a meeting on November 12.
