A Hendon school is to hold a conference tomorrow to mark Black History Month.
St Mary’s High School, in Sunningfields Road, will hold the event for its students.
Guest speakers at the conference will be Doreen Lawrence, who has been a race equality campaigner since the racially motivated murder of her son Stephen in 1993, and Dr Elizabeth Henry, chief executive of Race On The Agenda, a think tank that focuses on race equality in Britain.
In a statement the school said: “We are proud to be joined by two speakers who share St Mary’s values of fairness, justice and equality.
“We hope our students will be inspired and motivated by their stories and the wonderful work that they have done, and continue to do.”
The school is also marking Black History Month by focusing on teaching black British history in lessons.
Black History Month takes place in the UK every October and is organised as a celebration of black British history.
