Barnet Council says it will review parking outside the Royal Air Force Museum following complaints it is "dangerous" for drivers.

Museum employees desperately want the council to paint double yellow lines outside the site in Grahame Park Way, Colindale, down to Avion Crescent where cars currently line the road on a daily basis.

Due to the number of parked cars, drivers turning right out of the museum are forced to go into the centre of the road in order to see oncoming traffic.

Dave Rowe, general manager at the museum, says directors have been complaining to the council for approximately ten years about the build-up of cars along Grahame Park Way but nothing has been done.

He said: “It’s dangerous for our staff and our visitors.

“There have been accidents and near misses out here. It really needs sorting out otherwise at some stage there will be another accident here.”

In 2008 there was a serious injury when a car attempted to turn right out of the museum, and in 2005 there was a slight injury following a vehicle reversing in the road.

A council spokeswoman said: “We will be shortly be reviewing parking in the Grahame Park and Colindale areas, which will include investigating the parking which takes place along Grahame Park Way with a view to improving traffic flow and road safety.”
