Barnet Borough Council's council tax consultation draws to a close

The people of Barnet have just one week left to comment on options for Barnet Borough Council’s new Council Tax Support Scheme.

The government is abolishing Council Tax Benefit on March 31, 2013, and the new scheme, called Council Tax Support, will be introduced to replace it.

Under the new scheme the council will have ten per cent less to spend on council tax support – this equates to about £4.4 million a year.

The changes will not affect pensioners but everybody of working age who currently claims Council Tax Benefit will be affected.

It is likely that everyone of working age will have to pay something towards their council tax bill.

Further information about the proposals and the consultation document can be found here http://engage.barnet.gov.uk/consultation-team/options_for_council_tax_support/consult_view

The consultation ends at midnight on October 24.
