Cyclist killed by lorry in High Barnet

A cyclist was killed when she was hit by a lorry in High Barnet this afternoon.

Police have sealed off High Street (A1000) at the junction with Wood Street after the collision at 3pm.

Officers say the road is likely to be closed for some time and are warning motorists to expect long delays.

Witnesses said a red blanket was placed over the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Transport for London says it has diverted bus routes 234, 383 and 384.

It is indeed a terrible tragedy - so how come you devote most of your report to the anticipated effect on motorists and buses, rather than on the tragedy itself?

I am a London cyclist; I am saddened by the death of any road user and the death of another cyclist is shocking. I think 11 this year. The radio reports this afternoon were that the lorry did not stop; this article makes no mention either way. Let's hope the police investigation gets to the core of exactly what happened.

I've just found out today, very sad indeed, condolence to her family. I to am a cyclist & this is shaken me up.. what can I say. very sad indeed, but tell me why this was not reported.... how come I did not see this on the news? or papers, until today on twitter! it seems they want to put cyclist fatalities to one side, don't want to scare of boris bike users....
