Parents, school governors and campaigners cried tears of joy as their plans for better pedestrian safety were given the green light tonight.

Barnet Council’s area environment subcommittee agreed to increase safety measures near Martin Primary School in Plane Tree Walk, East Finchley.

Campaign group Walksafe N2 were delighted with the decision to introduce a 20mph speed limit in Church Lane.

Consultations will also be held on whether to introduce a zebra crossing in Creighton Avenue as well as a pedestrian island at the junction of Church Lane and East End Road.

People clapped and cheered as the councillors agreed each recommendation, before hugging and sharing their congratulations with each other.

Campaign leader, Emily Burnham said: “We’re absolutely ecstatic. It’s been a long, hard year but we’re really pleased with the result and we are looking forward to a fast implementation.”

More to follow.

Bit of a joke, wont stop people doing 30, 20mph is pathetic. Its mainly the same hypocrit parents who are campaigning are the ones that do the speeding at the school and in other area.
Plain and simple they are just a bunch of NIMBY's

How can they be NIMBYs (= Not in my back yard) if they are having to drive to school? There is no way I can think of that you can know if and where they are speeding. Talking of schools and thereby education there should be an apostrophe after the n in won't, an e on the end of hypocrite and if it is to make sense it should be areas rather than area.
