Schoolchildren taught in damaged classrooms after Edgware school burglary

Children at an Edgware primary school are being taught in damaged classrooms following a burglary.

Edgware Junior School in Heming Road was burgled last weekend.

The thieves took £2,000 worth of cameras, projectors and laptops and caused £1,000 worth of damage to newly refurbished classrooms.

The school has been unable to repair the damage as the work would disrupt lessons.

Therefore, the children are being taught in classrooms with damaged ceilings and equipment.

The Times Series contacted Councillor Andrew Harper, cabinet member for education, children and families, but he was not aware of the burglary having taken place.

Parents outside the school told the Times Series their children have been upset by the burglary.

One mother said: “My daughter has been upset by it. She keeps asking why the school was burgled and whether it will happen again.”

The school has not been willing to speak to the Times Series but headteacher, Shirley Patterson, released a statement saying: "We are devastated that our school has been violated but the staff are all doing their best to minimise the disruption to our pupils’ learning.

“We hope the perpetrator is caught and justice is served swiftly."

Police have, so far, been unable to establish a point of entry.
