Barnet Borough Council has approved plans to run support and day opportunities for older people in the borough.
The new scheme aims to provide activities and social events as locally as possible to help promote wellbeing and reduce isolation among older people.
Provision will be led by a group of existing voluntary sector providers, who will be known as the Barnet Provider Group.
They will be commissioned to run the neighbourhood services from April next year and will receive £550,000 each year to operate the service.
Cabinet Resources Committee also agreed last night that the council should begin a tendering process for two new services to come into operation in April 2013.
Later Life Planners and Practical Support will help people planning for their retirement as well as people moving back home after a spell in hospital.
