Ex-BBC war correspondent Martin Bell opens Hampstead Garden Suburb winter fair in aid of Combat Stress

A winter fair to raise money to support members of the armed forces will be opened by a former BBC war correspondent.

Ruth Smith, of Hampstead Garden Suburb, is holding the event at the Free Church Hall in Northway from 11am until 3pm on November 3.

It will raise money for Combat Stress, a charity which provides mental health care for war veterans, and will it be opened by the charity’s patron, Martin Bell.

Mr Bell is a former MP, BBC war correspondent, journalist and author.

Visitors to the fair will be able to browse an array of stalls selling everything from pearl jewellery to china, vintage clothes and children’s books.

There will also be a tombola, home-made cakes, Christmas cards and refreshments on offer.

Children up to the age of ten are invited to take part in a fancy dress competition for which they should dress up as a hero or heroine.
