Barnet Football Club has been granted permission to hold events in the west stand at the Hive - although a staggering 39 conditions have been applied in an attempt to allay residents’ concerns.

The club applied to Harrow Council to extend its current licence for the east stand to the other side of the stadium and the pitch.

Following objections from residents that they would be disturbed by long hours of outdoor activity in the grounds and concerns from Harrow Police, the club made significant changes to the application before yesterday’s licensing panel meeting.

In a unanimous decision, councillors agreed the new licence subject to the 39 conditions.

The new licence means the club can sell alcohol inside the West Stand from 12pm to 3am, and drinking outside must cease at 11pm.

Entertainment including sporting events, live music and dance performances can also take place indoors from 12pm until 3am.

Dance performances will also be able to take place outdoors from 12pm to 10.30pm and late night refreshment can be served both indoors and outdoors from 11pm to 3.30am.

The club withdrew its plans to host boxing and wrestling events from the application.

Panel chairman Councillor Susan Hall told the Harrow Times: “I asked all of the residents if they could give me any reasons why we shouldn’t approve the application and no one was able to give me any reasons. I think they accepted what had been changed was fair enough.

“I think all the issues had been addressed. The right decision has been made.”

The Times is waiting for a response from Barnet Football Club.
