ESTATE agent to the stars, Statons was established in the same year as the Barnet Borough Times which carried the fledgling firm’s first advert.

Nick Staton set up the business with his sister, Lorraine, in a tiny shop in Barnet Hill. In 1986, the company sold a property for £320,000 which it resold last year for £2.1 million.

Statons now has five shops with a new one due to open in Elstree.

Mr Staton said: "Barnet was a lot more villagey in 1985. A lot of businesses have built up in the borough since then. It has a very good feel to it now."

In 1985, businessmen lived in areas such as Hadley Wood, Monken Hadley and Totteridge, which have since become popular with footballers and stars such as Amy Winehouse.
