Enfield marks Black History Month

ENFIELD will start a month-long celebration of black culture and achievements on Friday with a rich choice of events.

Libraries, sports centres and art venues, such as Millfield Theatre, are offering a series of events in homage to Black History Month marked across the country in October.

Key events include a Somali Achievement Conference, designed to support raising and encouraging achievement within the community's young people, Poetry in Motion with Victor Richards, a black literature festival, and Glorious Gospel.

The borough's Family Learning Festival also takes place next month, from October 16 to 31, with the theme Be Brilliant.

The festival aims to encourage learning for children and adults.

Praising both events, Enfield Council's leisure boss Councillor Bambos Charalambous, said: “There's so much to learn and enjoy and there is something to interest and entertain everybody.

“Let’s celebrate in style and enjoy the riches of our borough in these two festivals.”

Yes David, I think White History Month is celebrated at the same time as the MOWO (Music Of White Origin) Awards.

To follow this up maybe in Edmonton there should be mugging of the month award or unemployment figure of the year award?
