Two runners taking part in the London Marathon are determined to complete the race to show “solidarity” with the victims of bombings in Boston.

It is still not known who planted two bombs close to the finish line of the Boston marathon, killing three people and injuring 170.

Finchley husband and wife Jonathan and Lauren Barr have not let the attack put them off taking part in the London race, and are set on crossing the finish line on Sunday.

Mr Barr, 53, said: “We are more determined than ever to participate in the London Marathon as the Boston runners were our kindred spirits.

“We had been focusing on achieving personal best times in training but that now seems almost irrelevant in the circumstances. The important thing is to show solidarity with Boston, get to the start line, run and then finish safely.

“Naturally we are a little anxious for our family who plan to support us on the day, but they are also determined not to be deterred from cheering us on.”

London Marathon organisers say the race will go ahead. There will be a 30-second silence at the start and runners will be given a black ribbon to wear.

Mr and Mrs Barr, who will celebrate their 23rd anniversary the day after the marathon, hope to raise £5,000 for North London Hospice. To sponsor the couple go to
