Young people formed the Olympic logo at a ‘mini-Paralympics’ ceremony at Copthall Stadium, in Mill Hill, to mark the handover of the Paralympic baton from Beijing to London yesterday as the closing ceremony took place in China.
Young people with special educational needs from a number of schools took part in the day, which involved a celebratory ceremony followed by competitive sporting events.
They had all received expert coaching in athletics, rowing, and boccia — a game similar to bowls — in the weeks before. Barnet’s own Paralympian Tom Aggar, 24, returned from Beijing with a gold medal in the arms-only single skull rowing event.
