Film Barnet In 90 Seconds

1:08pm Wednesday 27th January 2010

BUDDING film-makers are invited to take part in an innovative and exciting short film competition scheme: ‘Film Barnet in 90 Seconds’.

The competition, run in partnership with Barnet Council, Film London and the Times Series gives wannabe directors - young and old - the chance to win two cash prizes of £150, two Amazon vouchers of £50 and the opportunity of having your film screened before a public audience.

Barnet is a cosmopolitan and diverse borough, full of energy, full of stories. Now is your chance to tell those stories using local voices.

The 90-second films about Barnet should explore what the borough means to you; what excites you, what inspires you, what you love, or what you would like to see in Barnet.

This theme can be interpreted in any way so be as creative as you like. The films can be any subject and genre, with a focus on the things that matter to you in your own community.

They can be filmed using any medium, from the most sophisticated digital video and the latest mobile phone technology to the most basic low-fi equipment. It is the tale that counts, 90 seconds to tell the world about the Barnet you live in.

Film Barnet is part of Film London in 90 Seconds, launched last summer as part of the London Borough Film Fund Challenge (LBFFC). The competition is open to Barnet residents and those studying in Barnet. The entries will be judged by council and Film London representatives as well as Times Series editor and the chief executive of Phoenix Cinema.

There are two age ranges, 11 to 24 years, and 25 years and over. Each category will have a £150 cash prize for first place and £50 Amazon vouchers for second place.

Councillor Robert Rams, Barnet Council's cabinet member for investment in learning, said: "Barnet is a wonderfully diverse borough and this competition allows people of all ages to show us their Barnet. I look forward to seeing the entries."
