Schoolchildren are using their entrepreneurial skills to help the Times Series save a juice bar run by people with learning disabilities.

Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Bow Lane, Finchley, decided to use their annual enterprise project to support Give us Some Juice campaign after reading about it in the Hendon & Finchley Times.

Every year group, from Nursery to Year Six, has been busy trying to raise as much cash as possible for Drink it Juice Bar which faces closure at the end of the year if it fails to bring in at least £5,000 to cover its costs.

Pupils have been selling a range of items for the past three weeks including homemade biscuits, friendship bracelets, calendars, used toys and Year Five set up their own smoothie bar. So far they have managed to bring in a total of £500.

Jessie McMorrow, a Year Six pupil, said: “I enjoyed working with my friends for a good cause.”

Claire Davies, maths subject leader at the school, said: “The Give us Some Juice campaign has given our enterprise projects a real life context, which is invaluable for our children.”

The juice bar trains adults with learning disabilities to serve customers healthy fruit shakes at the Finchley Youth Theatre in High Road, East Finchley on Saturdays from 11.30am-2.30pm. They also get a paid wage, as well as gain qualifications in customer services, health and safety and first aid.

Laura Davitt, project coordinator at Barnet Mencap, said: “What the school has done is amazing. I feel honoured they have chosen to donate money to us – it’s definitely the boost we needed.”

So far the Give us Some Juice Bar has brought in £1,948. To help us reach our £5,000 target, pop into Barnet Mencap in Hendon Lane, Finchley to make a donation or visit www.justgiving.com/drinkitjuicebar
