Grange Big Local Success at Bishop Douglas School

More than 200 people had a fun afternoon and their say on £1million spend at Grange Big Local’s third Community Festival.

Grange Big Local held its third Community Festival on the afternoon of Sunday 27th September at Bishop Douglas School.

This built on the success of the previous ones, including last year’s youth event at Brownswell Road, which was run collaboratively with Art against Knives and the previous one, which had live music, pizza and stalls.

There were plenty of fun activities for old and young (and everyone in between), food and drink, community information, face painting, a bouncy castle and a variety of games. Casserole Club engaged people on their project linking volunteers who share home-cooked food with people in their area who aren’t always able to cook for themselves. There was art therapy, a credit union and a fire engine! A start People rep was on hand to advise people on starting a business.

Importantly, there was a chance for local people to have their say on how the £1 million awarded to the area should be spent and find out what the plans are so far. The event was an opportunity for taking the Big Local project further and demonstrate how far ideas for the Grange Big Local area have developed.

Grange Big Local is an area of East Finchley that has been awarded £1 million of National Lottery money for local residents to decide how to spend over the next ten years. The area is made up of the roads and spaces south of the North Circular, west of the High Road, north of Church Lane and east of East End Road. It includes the Grange, Font Hills and Thomas More estates.

CommUNITY Barnet is the local trusted organisation for Grange big local. Further information on CommUNITY Barnet can be found at www.communitybarnet.org.uk.
