A spectacular fly-past of nine Eurofighter jets and a Second World War Spitfire over Colindale capped a series of celebrations at the Royal Air Force Museum this week.
Senior officers from the RAF joined former servicemen at
the 90th anniversary events at the museum, in Grahame Park Way.
Twenty-six RAF veterans were presented with HM Armed Forces veterans’ badges by veterans minister Derek Twigg at the event on Monday.
RAF Association (RAFA) members from all over the country attended, including the RAFA president, Air Marshal Philip Sturley. He said: “It is vital that veterans are recognised because these people have risked their lives for their country, often from a very young age.”
Among the badge recipients was RAFA Hendon branch member John Eddisford, 71, who served in the RAF for 22 years as a wireless mechanic.
He said: “I am very proud to receive this badge.”
