Potters Bar Rail Crash Inquest

The Times Series reports the latest developments at the inquest into the deaths of seven people in the 2002 rail crash

After eight years of waiting, the inquest into the deaths of seven people at the Potters Bar Rail Crash has finally begun.

On May 10, 2002, an West Anglia Great Northern train derailed just outside Potters Bar and the fourth carriage flipped on to its side and crashed into the station.

Six passengers and one pedestrian were killed and 76 were injured in the crash, which forced rail firms to investigate what had gone wrong and what needed to be changed to ensure the catastrophic failures were not repeated.

The inquest, being held in Letchworth, Herts, is looking at the circumstances surrounding the fatal rail crash and the way the rail industry has reacted to it.

The Times Series will be reporting throughout the two-month hearing, keeping our readers up-to-date on all the latest developments.
