- A woman was savaged by a pit bull terrier in a 20-minute attack.Maryam Mudhir, 21, who studied at Middlesex University, sustained severe cuts to her leg. The dog was destroyed, and its owner —

- The British National Party was threatened with legal action by London mayor Ken Livingstone over controversial campaign leaflets distributed in Barnet. The leaflets contrasted scenes from 1950s
Britain with three women in Islamic veils and had the slogan: ‘Is this what you really want?’ Mayor Livingstone threatened legal action after the far right party named the leaflet The Londoner —
the title of the mayor’s monthly leaflet.
- A New Southgate man, who was friends with the failed July 21 suicide bombers was jailed for 12 years. Siraj Yassin Abdullah Ali, 33 was found guilty on four counts of failing to disclose
information which could prevent terrorism and one count of assisting an offender by impeding his apprehension or prosecution. Police found notes relating to the construction of the bombs used.
- Television presenter Jeremy Beadle died. More than 200 friends, family, celebrities and charity workers attended the Barnet funnyman’s funeral at St Marylebone Crematorium in Hampstead Garden
Suburb.
- Eight Barnet post offices were earmarked for closure as the Government hoped to save millions of pounds.The Times Series started a campaign to save them.
