Customers speak out
Ann Jefferys Ann Jefferys, 45, of Cricklewood, said: "I think it's atrocious. This will have a terrible effect on people nearby who rely on this post office to do their errands especially people without a car as the nearest post office is Golders Green. I come here every single day to do my business and there's always someone in here. It is a lively shop." Christine Thomas Christine Thomas, of Pennine Drive, Cricklewood, said: "Please don't let them take our post office away. If it closes, people like us would suffer because the time it would take to get served in Golders Green we'd probably be dead. It might not seem a far distance, but it is two bus rides away which is hard for older people.
"I would probably have to take a cab and that would cost me. They tried to take it away once before and we fought then. Now they're back and we'll fight again." Touraj Atai Touraj Atai, 60, of Cricklewood Lane, whose nearest post office is the Childs Hill branch, said: "It will be the older people who suffer. This post office has a real importance in the community. I know people around the area who can hardly walk and people like that will have nowhere to go.
"They will have to get a mini-cab to the next nearest post office. If the cab drives them there, waits for them to queue, and then drives them back, it will cost them upwards of £10, and people can't afford that on their
pensions." Joseph Clement Joseph Clement, 72, of Llanvanor Road, Golders Green, said: "Closing the post office in Childs Hill is a very bad idea. The nearest post office is the one in Golders Green and that is a few bus stops away. But that's a very busy place and there's always long queues and this will just mean more queuing because that is the only place people can go." John Deller John Deller, 63, of Cotswold Gardens, Cricklewood, said: "I use this post office every now and again and I can see how useful it is for people. To close it would be wrong. Where would all its customers go? To Golders Green? That's quite a distance, especially for people who have to use public transport." Michael Waterman Michael Waterman, 49, of Mountfield Road, Finchley, said: "Isn't everybody against the post office closures? Post offices shouldn't be treated like a normal business. They perform a vital function to the community. The proposals are stupid but what do you expect from the worst Government ever?" Hannah Trybowska Hannah Trybowska, 31, of Nether Street, Finchley, faces losing the post office in her road. She said: "It's friendly in our post office. We would have to go up to North Finchley where we won't know people.
"It would be a great loss - people have got used to this place. It gives you a feeling of community rather than an institution where they give you a ticket and you have to wait.
"We would really notice the difference if it wasn't here." Mike Gerschel Mike Gerschel, of The Vale, Cricklewood, whose nearest post office is Pennine Parade, said: "It would be terrible for the community.
"Locally, the alternatives are Golders Green and Cricklewood, and there is no parking there.
"It would turn it into a task upwards of an hour for most people and there would be the cost of bus or taxi travel."
