Police are appealing for information after a man climbed onto the tracks at a London Underground station to steal a mobile phone that had been dropped there.

A 30-year-old woman from Barnet dropped her phone onto the track at Wembley Park on February 5.

She was told staff would safely retrieve it that evening but CCTV footage showed a traveller jumping down onto the track to get the mobile before making his way to the Jubilee line.

Detectives from British Transport Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Jamie Holden, said: “Going on to the track is incredibly dangerous and people risk serious injury or even death. It can also have a huge impact on the operational running of the railway and thousands of passengers are inconvenienced by it every year.

“We take theft on the London Underground network very seriously, and I would ask anyone who recognises the man pictured, or has any information that could help the investigation, to please get in touch.”
