Fire walkers stepped on sizzling hot coals to raise thousands of pounds for a hospice.

Elm Court Youth and Community Centre, in Mutton Lane, Potters Bar, was transformed into a fire pit as more than 17 people braved the challenge.

The sure-footed people who were willing to feel the heat helped raise £5,500 for Peace Hospice Care, based in Watford.

A two-hour training session provided the walkers with the confidence for the coals, and while they prepared for their hot moment, friends and family enjoyed music, food and a well stocked bar.

Peace Hospice Care fundraising co-ordinator Deborah Laing said: “‘Our fantastic firewalkers have really helped us support local people with life-limiting illnesses. We thank every one of them for braving the hot coals.”
