A government minister visited the site where nearly 200 homes are being built.

Kris Hopkins, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Local Government, visited the old White Lion ground in Burnt Oak Broadway, Edgware, to see the development.

Based on Edgware Town Football Club's former ground, it includes 178 apartments and 11 houses.

Work by developer Weston Homes started in March, and it is due to be completed by spring 2016. About 70 homes have been sold so far, with four sold through the government-backed help to buy scheme.

Mr Hopkins, a former housing minister, said: "I get to see a lot of houses, and these are really high quality. The developer has been pushing for more affordable housing for the community, and I think what they have delivered is an interesting mix.

"This is a really impressive location. The fact they sold 40 per cent before they came out of the ground shows the reputation of the company has gone before it."

The first tenants will move in next March.

Jim Wood, group construction director on the site, said: "It's going very well, and we have had a lot of interest. We're on track so far."
