An MP told children who held a debate over free school meals that they did better than his colleagues in the House of Commons.

Year 2 pupils from Rimon Jewish Primary School, in Dunstan Road, Golders Green, invited MP Mike Freer to watch their discussions on the arguments for and against the provision of school lunches.

After the debate, the speaker counted the votes and found that most were in favour of the free meals.

The children also asked Mr Freer questions about his job, including his work at the Houses of Parliament.

The Finchley and Golders Green told the pupils they had conducted their debate better than MPs in the Commons chamber.
