Pupils got the chance to name five puppies after raising more than £8,000.

Stormont School, in The Causeway, Potters Bar, held a special assembly this morning, during which names were picked out of a hat for the dogs.

The school raised £8,368.42 for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in a variety of ways, which included a blindfolded obstacle course, to help pupils understand what it was like to be blind.

The puppies, which will be trained as guide dogs, will visit the school in the next few months once they are born.

Margaret Clarke, who is supported by the charity, took part in the assembly, along with her guide dog Marston.

Along with Joanne Landucci, a community fundraiser for Guide Dogs, they picked the names out of the hat, and explained how the charity works.

Olivia, eight, who named one of the puppies Honey, said: “My favourite thing was the obstacle race, it was really fun.”

Headteacher Sharon Martin said: “I am tremendously proud, because they did so much. The girls came up with a lot of ideas themselves.

“They have done so much together. Everybody got really involved, including all the staff and pupils. They can’t wait to meet the puppies.”

The other puppies will be named Coco, Lucky, Poppy, and Milo.
