A school celebrated winning a silver award for improving its pupils’ health.
Mathilda Marks-Kennedy Primary School, in Hale Lane, Mill Hill, won the award as part of Healthy Schools London, a scheme sponsored by the Mayor of London to improve health and wellbeing in schools.
Councillor Helena Hart, chairman of the Barnet health and wellbeing board, visited the school yesterday to present the award.
The school focused on the emotional wellbeing of pupils, with an action plan focused on peer mentoring and a playtime buddies’ scheme.
Debbie Weissbraun, head of key stage two, said: “We’re very proud to be amongst the first four schools in Barnet to gain the Healthy Schools London Silver Award. We are looking forward to completing our action plan and hopefully achieving the gold award over the next year.
“The school has found the help and training available from the Barnet Schools Wellbeing Programme very supportive.”
Barnet is now one of the leading boroughs in the Healthy Schools London award tables, with four schools with a silver award and 20 a bronze.
