Pupils buried a snapshot of life at their school to show future generations how their school was run in 2014.

Year 7 and 8 pupils at the Compton School, in Summers Lane, North Finchley, hid a time capsule under the earth in the school grounds.

Inside, they included a letter reflected on the changes in the school since it first opened in 1992, photographs, DVDs of the school’s prize giving ceremony, exercise books and other memorabilia.

Both pupils and teachers who run the school’s history club came up with the idea to bury the time capsule.

Deputy headteacher Malcolm McGlynn said: “The children loved the project. They particularly loved the idea of writing to someone in the future.

“It was very sweet and they spoke nice things about their tutors as well.

“It could be there for up to 300 years – it’s going to be an amazing thing for future generations to open and look at.”

A plaque will be erected on the side of the school building to indicate where the capsule is buried.
