Barnet's most senior councillors will face the public to discuss cuts and imminent budget cuts.

The council’s leader, Conservative councillor Richard Cornelius, will take the hotseat during a special event.

But only 60 people are allowed to attend the session – though the authority says it is in the process of adding further dates.

Barnet Council needs to make £73.5m of cuts by 2020 and is currently consulting on a variety of issues, including cutting library services.

Other committee chairmen will also be available for questioning during the event.

Cllr Cornelius said: “We are currently carrying out a detailed online consultation into the priorities and budget of the council for the rest of this decade. I appreciate that some residents feel happier giving their views in person, so we have set up an open conversation event.

"I will be there, as will the chairmen of the other major committees, so residents can give their views and have a conversation with one or all of us.

“Everyone has to accept that there will be less money to spend, but we want to make sure that the council’s priorities match those of residents.”

The meeting will be held at Hendon Town Hall on Wednesday, February 4 from 7pm to 9pm.
