A father and son team who set out to con elderly people have been jailed.

Jimmy Chuter, 26, of Datchet, Berkshire, was sentenced to four years in prison and his father, Albert Webb, 51, of Virginia Water, Surrey, three and a half years for defrauding elderly victims across the home counties.

In a series of crimes across the south east, the pair claimed they had completed roofing work on their properties and demanding payment for the work.

One victim, an 87-year-old woman, was approached by Webb in Darkes Lane, Potters Bar on September 24 2013 while she was shopping.

The victim ignored him, and returned home a couple of hours later to find Webb waiting outside her home with a younger man.

They spoke to her about building work, and claimed they had completed work and required payment, demanding £2,000.

The men took her into the garden and showed her the work they claimed to have carried out.

Although she did not believe the work had been done, she felt the only way to make them was to pay them. She gave them the money, and they left.

Chuter and Webb appeared at St Albans Crown Court last Friday and pleaded guilty to 35 crimes in Hertforshire and the south east.

In total, it is believed they gained £15,000 from their crimes.

Police officers are hoping to speak to a third man in connection with the crimes.

Jessie Webb, 19, from Virginia Water, is believed to be in the Surrey and London area.

Anyone with information of his whereabouts is urged to call 101, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
