A woman has died after a hit-and-run car crash in West Hendon.

Police were called to the scene on the A5 just before 6am where they found a woman in her 40s with serious injuries.

She was taken to a north London hospital but was pronounced dead.

Next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem will take place shortly.

Officers believe the woman was hit by a silver Mercedes which continued heading northbound after the incident.

No arrests have been made and enquires continue.

The Metropolitan Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.

Detective Stephen Pidgeon said: “Despite the collision taking place very early this morning there was a number of people who were within the vicinity who may have witnessed the events in the lead up to the collision or the actual collision itself.

“If anyone does have any information I urge them to come forward and help us with our investigation.

“I would also like to appeal to the driver of the vehicle, please do the right thing and hand yourself into police at the earliest opportunity.”
