A couple say the secret to 65 years of happy marriage is to make each other laugh every day.

Great-grandparents Ron Findon, 87, and his wife Jeanette, 84, who have lived in Brook Avenue, Edgware since 1950, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last week.

They spent it at the Watford Pump House, where Mr Findon played saxophone with his Dixieland band, The Stackyard Stompers.

Classical music lover Mr Findon has been a musician all his life, and has played for the Queen at Windsor Castle and with an orchestra at Buckingham Palace several times.

Also a jazz fan, he plays with his band at The Horns in Watford every Sunday.

Mr Findon said: “Our anniversary was terrific, we really enjoyed it. They made a great fuss of us. Everyone sang for us, it was wonderful.”

Asked for his tips for a long and happy marriage, Mr Findon said: “We make each other laugh all the time, and we have a joke everyday.”

The anniversary came during a week of double celebrations for the couple, as their great-grandson Oscar turned one last Saturday.

They also have a 58-year-old son, Will, who is also a musician, and two grandchildren.
