An aid worker helping tens of thousands of refugees is calling on the public to support an Oxfam appeal.

Andy Boscoe, of Brookside, East Barnet, is the Oxfam programme manager for the Za’Atari refugee camp in Jordan, which is home to nearly 90,000 Syrians who have fled the conflict in the country.

The 33-year-old manages the charity’s section of the camp, delivering the water supply and sanitation, and is responsible for communications with the UN and Jordanian government.

Mr Boscoe, who has been based at the camp since February last year, is calling on people to support Oxfam’s’ Strength to Survive appeal, which aims to raise £2m for vulnerable communities to help them survive.

He said: "In the year that I have spent in Za'Atari, I have seen people's hopes of returning home soon dwindle as the crisis continues. I have worked in refugee camps in other countries too, but due to the lives people have left behind, the psychological suffering in Za'Atari camp is the worst I have seen anywhere.

“If people can support Oxfam's Strength to Survive appeal, they will be helping people caught up in the most desperate of humanitarian circumstances.”

The appeal runs until May 4. People can donate in any Oxfam shop, online or at oxfam.org.uk/appeal or by texting 70066 to give £5.
